From the First Sketch to the Final Stitch
Every RUA & RUA piece begins by hand. An idea first takes shape through drawing, proportion and colour before it is translated directly onto the fabric.
Painting, embroidery and couture construction are developed as one continuous process. Each stage responds to the silhouette, structure and movement of the garment rather than being added as decoration afterwards.
The finished piece preserves the visible character of its making: the movement of the brush, the direction of the thread and the subtle decisions made by hand throughout its creation.
Painted by Hand
The composition is never transferred as a repeated print. Every flower, stem and detail is drawn and painted directly onto the fabric.
Working by hand allows the artwork to respond to the exact shape of the garment. Motifs may frame a neckline, follow the waist, continue across a seam or unfold gradually over the volume of a skirt.
Colour is built in successive layers, from transparent first marks to deeper tones and finely painted details. In this way, the painting becomes part of the garment itself rather than an image placed upon its surface.
Embroidered
One Stitch at a Time
Selected painted motifs are developed further through layers of hand embroidery.
Threads are chosen not only for colour, but also for sheen, weight and texture. Different shades and directions of stitch allow every petal and leaf to respond naturally to light and movement.
Some areas remain softly painted, while others are raised through dense stitching, metallic thread or sculptural detail. This contrast creates depth while preserving the original character of the drawing beneath.
Every stitch is placed in relation to the surrounding colour, form and proportion of the garment.
From Drawing to Dimension
Each floral composition begins with a line drawn directly onto the fabric. Colour is then developed by hand, layer by layer, before selected details are raised through embroidery.
Painting establishes the movement, atmosphere and tonal character of the design. Thread introduces another dimension: depth, reflection and a changing surface that responds to the body and to light.
The two techniques are developed together until the boundary between drawing, painting and embroidery begins to disappear. What begins as a flat line gradually becomes a tactile composition with its own rhythm, volume and presence.

Our craftsmanship is not defined by a single motif, technique or garment.
Each design develops its own visual language through colour, embroidery, hand-shaped ornament and carefully selected materials. A composition may unfold across a gown, appear as a concentrated detail on a corset or be translated into a completely different ornamental story.
The approach changes according to the character of each fabric and silhouette. Silk, velvet, wool and structured satin each require a different hand. The material is never merely a background; it becomes an active part of the final design.
This allows the craft to evolve from one creation to the next while remaining unmistakably connected to the world of RUA & RUA.
One Piece. Never Precisely Repeated.
Because every composition is developed by hand, subtle variations are an essential part of its character.
The movement of a painted line, the blending of colour and the placement of individual stitches can never be reproduced with mechanical precision. Even when a design belongs to the same family, each piece retains its own balance and details.
These differences are not imperfections. They are evidence of an authentic process guided by the eye and the hand. Every garment carries the trace of the people who created it and becomes an individual interpretation of the original design.
